Around one million tickets will be made available today for the general public, and they will have until 16 September to apply for tickets.

Prices start at £15, with two-thirds of tickets costing less than £25 for the Games, which will host 17 sports.

To mark the occasion, the Games official mascot will be visiting primary schools around Scotland hoping to inspire children about the event.

Clyde was designed by student Beth Gilmour who won a UK-wide Blue Peter competition to design the Glasgow 2014 mascot.

Double gold medal-winning swimmer David Carry and badminton player, Susan Egelstaff, will accompany Clyde to give young children an insight into next summer’s event.

David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 chief executive, said: "Wherever Clyde goes he always receives a positive reception. He's friendly, fun and cheeky, and he's exactly the mascot to introduce the Games to Scotland's young people.

"Young people are at the heart of everything we do and we're looking forward to making sure that young Scots know what they can expect when the Games come to their home next year."
