Telegraph.co.uk back on top as Sun Online slides to fifth in latest ABCe results

LONDON - Telegraph.co.uk was the UK's most popular national newspaper website in March, overtaking TheSun.co.uk which fell back to fifth place following a record month in February, according to the latest ABCe results.

unique users climbed by 5.88% month on month to hit a record 27.71m and its UK users marginally increased, rising from 9.23m in February to 9.26m in March.

Edward Roussel, digital editor at Telegraph Media Group, said: "Telegraph.co.uk had a record month. Finance, travel and blogs were among the biggest contributors to our growth.

"Sport and technology also continue to be popular."

rose from third to second place during the month with a 3.58% rise in unique users to 26.24m. The site's UK users also increased month on month, from 10.22m to 10.67m.

MailOnline, which includes the and sites, found itself back in third position, leapfrogging Times Online, with an 8.82% increase in unique users to 23.77m. The site's UK users jumped from 6.88m to 7.24m.

remained in fourth place after posting a 1.71% month-on-month decline in unique users to 21.61m. However, its UK users increased from 7.72m in February to 8.13m in March.

slipped from first place to fifth after its unique users dropped from a record 27.3m in February to 21.25m in March -- a fall of 22.25%. Its UK users also fell from 8.28m to 8.10m.

had a positive month, climbing 7.07% to reach 10.03m unique users. Its UK users also rose from 3.99m to 4.34m.

Mirror Group, spanning , and , had a 2.16% increase in unique users to 7.14m. Its UK users jumped from 3.64m in February to 3.90m in March.
