
Most of the 82 will be working their notice periods over the coming weeks.
NEC Group chief executive Paul Thandi said: "The NEC Group is not immune from the downturn in the economy and we have seen a significant drop in revenues in some areas of our business, particularly exhibitions. Ultimately, our aim is to safeguard employment as much as possible for the future. Not only those employees directly employed by us today, but also the many thousands of workers in the region who rely on our continued success as a business, now and in the future."
At the beginning of the process it was feared that up to 130 jobs would be lost, but the number of redundancies has been reduced significantly throughout the consultation process as a result of affected staff being recruited into existing vacancies and positions created in the reorganisation.
