Exhibitions: NEC Group unveils Dublin venue

The NEC Group is unveiling details of a 25-year deal to manage the new Convention Centre, Dublin (CCD) at this month's Confex, signalling its ambitions to build a portfolio that extends beyond its Birmingham base.

The 44,000sqm venue, located on Spencer Dock, is scheduled to open in 2010. It will involve management and operations teams from the group's International Convention Centre.

"Our Birmingham complex is one of Europe's busiest and we are trying to maximise on our expertise through consultancy and management projects. This is the first project but we are not going to leave it at Dublin," said Nick Waight, now NEC Group convention centres managing director and chief executive of the CCD.The NEC Group forms part of a consortium established by the Spencer Dock Development Company.
