The penultimate episode in BBC One's thriller 'The Silence' beat ITV1's 'Midsomer Murders' during the crucial 9pm to 10pm slot last night, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The third episode in the four-part 'The Silence’ was watched by an average of 4.3 million people across BBC One and BBC HD, an 18.1% share of the available audience.

An average of 3.9 million people watched the long-running murder mystery show ‘Midsomer Murders’ on ITV1 and ITV1 HD last night, a 17.3% share of the available audience.

The first episode of the new series of BBC Two’s ‘Dragon’s Den’, which gives the public a chance to pitch to business people for investment, was watched by an average of 2.9 million, a 12.5% share of the available audience.

Channel 4’s documentary following veteran TV presenter Bruce Forsyth, ‘Living with Brucie’, drew the channel’s biggest audience of the day, with an average of 2.4 million viewers between 9pm and 10pm, a 10.1% share of the audience. Including Channel 4+1 ratings, it attracted 2.7 million viewers.

The first episode of the final Katie Price series on ITV2, which follows the glamour model turned businesswoman’s blessing ceremony, performed well for a multichannel, with an average audience of 1.2 million across ITV2 and ITV2+1.

Five’s US crime drama 'NCIS' drew the lowest audience of the five main channels between 9pm and 10pm, with an average of 987,500 viewers, a 4.2% share of the available audience.

‘Big Brother’ got its highest audience of the week so far, with 2.5 million viewers across Channel 4 and Channel 4+1. An average of 2.3 million people watched the reality show on Channel 4 between 10pm and 11pm, a 13.1% share of the available audience.
