The Hollywood duo took part in the programme's 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car' segment, as part of the publicity tour for their new movie 'Knight and Day'.
The show took a 22.3% share of viewing on BBC Two, and 598,000 viewers and a 2.3% share on BBC HD in the 8pm to 9pm slot.
Perhaps more worryingly for ITV, BBC One's new modern-day adaptation of Sherlock Holmes got off to a strong start with 7.5 million viewers across BBC One and BBC HD.
'Sherlock' took a 28.5% share of viewing on BBC One between 9pm and 10.30pm, and a 1.9% share of viewing and 479,000 viewers on BBC HD at the same time. There are two more programmes to run in the series.
ITV ran 'Heartbeat' at 8pm to 9pm and 'Taggart' at 9pm to 10pm, the former doing better with 4.8 million viewers (including ITV HD viewers) and an 18.5% share.
'Taggart' managed 3.8 million viewers and a 14.9% share, beating the 2.2 million audience for 'Big Brother' (2.5 million including Channel 4+1 ratings), and Five's 798,000 audience for Jim Carrey film 'The Mask'.
