MasterChef Academy, for iPhone and iPod Touch, includes over 100 tutorials including 50 step-by-step broadcast quality videos starring finalists from recent ‘MasterChef ‘and ‘MasterChef: The Professionals’ as one-to-one tutors.

The app, which can be downloaded from iTunes for £2.99, has classes split by category, including meat, fish and seafood, fruit and vegetables, eggs, pasta and rice, stocks and sauces, herbs and spices and desserts.

The recipes and skills are demonstrated by a range of MasterChef ‘alumni’ including winners of the past four series Dhruv Baker (2010), Mat Follas (2009), James Nathan (2008) and Stephen Wallis (2007).

The app was made by Shine’s digital specialists Shine Vu. Chris Thorogood, director of operations at Shine Vu, said: "The production team have applied the same techniques and values as they do on the programme to deliver an interactive, stylish and practical app and one that if used will improve your culinary selection, preparation, technique and presentation immeasurably."

MasterChef Academy is the latest in a series of licensing lines launched for the MasterChef brand, which have included publishing and live events led by commercial director John Gilbert and joint managing director of Shine TV, Jamie Munro.

There have been 15 series of MasterChef in the UK and the peak audience during the last series, ‘Celebrity MasterChef’, was 7.8 million viewers. MasterChef is produced in 20 countries and finished programmes air in 145 territories.
