Baker, who quit the outdoor media owner in November last year to pursue a cooking career, triumphed over rivals Tim Kinnaird and Alex Rushmer to take the crown thanks to a winning dish of venison with a potato, brunoise and fenugreek crust.

To make the final he also had to face challenges that included cooking for the Maharajah of Jodphur in temperatures close to 100F.

Baker had worked at Hi-Tech Media, which specialises in bar and golf outdoor media, for almost 10 years.

But the 34-year-old was always intent on making it as a chef, even admitting the fact to the agency's managing director Rob Sutton during his initial interview.

The BBC's MasterChef has run for six seasons in its current format, with the latest series regularly bringing in more than five million viewers.
