
The event will feature traditional aspects of birthday parties such as a bouncy castle, magicians, balloon twisting and pass-the-parcel alongside more Elizabethan themes. Guests will be encouraged to get involved with musical Roman statues and ‘pin the ruff on the Bard’.
Improvisational theatre group The School of Night have been booked to perform a variety of interactive rhapsodies, poetry and drama of the Globe’s stage. The group, who have previously performed at the London Jam festival and Edinburgh festival, will take to the stage to perform for 15 minutes every hour between 1 and 4pm.
In conjunction with the event, all standing tickets for performances throughout April have been priced at ‘450 pence’.
Other celebrations planned for Shakespeare’s birthday include a fireworks display from the top of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon on 23 April and a 1,000-strong parade through the centre of the town.
