To be held from 3-4 August and re-creating part of the Olympic race routes, RideLondon is expected to attract more than 70,000 cyclists. Prudential has signed up to partner the event for the next three years.
Four events will make up the cycling festival including a 100-mile event through London and Surrey via Richmond Park, open to amateur and club riders. An eight-mile mass participation ride will travel through central London on closed roads, while a Grand Prix race will take place on a circuit in and around St James’s Park. The elite men’s professional race will follow part of the Olympic road race route over 140 miles.
Boris Johnson, mayor of London, said: "Following the superhuman efforts of our Team GB cyclists last year, thousands of cycling enthusiasts, both experienced and amateur, riding a fantastic route through the streets of our fine city is surely a fitting legacy."
Tidjane Thiam, chief executive of Prudential Group said: "The 2012 Games reaffirmed London’s leading position on the world stage. Following on this historic success for our capital city, Prudential is announcing a long-term partnership with RideLondon. I am confident that this exciting, annual event will become both a global showcase for London and a leading mass-participation sporting festival, promoting the values of healthy, active lifestyles for people of all ages throughout Britain."
