Renault is using the one-time France international footballer, famously banned for nine-months after an attack upon a Crystal Palace supporter, to promote its new Laguna model.

The manufacturer has rolled out a teaser clip showing Cantona rehearsing for the shoot, which can be found at renaultcantona.co.uk. The full viral will launch targeting UK and French consumers from 23 March.

Renault used current French football star Thierry Henry to advertise its Clio model between 2002 and 2006. Cantona has previously starred in a number for TV ads for sports brand Nike.

Like many car manufacturers, Renault has suffered a poor start to the year, with UK sales down over 55% year-on-year.
