Remember Cuil? It's now gone real-time

LONDON - Alternative search engine Cuil has released a real-time search feature it hopes will become a viable alternative to Google, Facebook and Twitter.

The engine, which generated a lot of hype when it , is attempting to tap into the trend for rea-time search results.

When users search for keywords that are generating real time results creates a toolbar, which indicates how many real time results it has found.

The toolbar can be expanded to show a sample of results from news and blogs, and an indicator shows the ‘hotness' of the topic. The user can also open the toolbar in a pop up box to monitor the subject on an ongoing basis.

Despite garnering huge amounts of publicity when it launched, largely due to the fact it was set up by ex-Googlers, Cuil has failed to capitalise on its launch traffic, attracting fewer than 90,000 unique users in July.

Real-time search has been touted as the next big thing, as Facebook and Twitter attempt to tap into their enormous user bases to help user find relevant real-time information and tap into the latest trends.
