Realrunner pushes marathon sponsorship with game

LONDON - Those people who can not run 26 miles in two hours are still in with a chance of winning a prize in the Flora London Marathon thanks to an online game.

The is sponsored by the running resources website and the .

The game is in the style of Pac Man but users must make a runner move around a course, collecting water and running shoes but avoiding the dreaded stitch that will knock them out of the game. It was developed by Realrunner.com and the agency .

Users can win prizes including lunch with the race director David Bedford and a three-month coaching programme with Olympic athlete Spencer Duval.

Bedford said: "It's an entertaining introduction to the fundamentals behind marathon running and, like the marathon, is by no means easy. I just hope that runners will get as addicted to their training as they will to playing this game."

The British Heart Foundation is using the game to raise awareness of its running team for the race, captained by the explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, which will collect money to research heart disease.
