Pushing Daisies is pulled but Life On Mars lives on

NEW YORK - The ABC network looks set to pull the plug on 'Pushing Daisies' but will order more episodes of the US remake of 'Life On Mars'.

'Pushing Daisies', which was given a big push when it was screened in the UK by ITV1 earlier this year, had been recommissioned, but the US press reports that it will finish after its current production order -- although ABC has not officially cancelled it.

The show, which stars English actor Anna Friel, was about a pie-maker who had the ability to bring dead people back to life.

ABC has also put two other series on ice: 'Eli Stone', a legal drama starring another Brit, Jonny Lee Miller, and 'Dirty Sexy Money', a family drama that features Donald Sutherland.

But it will commission more episodes of 'Life On Mars', in which Harvey Keitel plays the role of Gene Hunt.

'Pushing Daisies' is in its second series, with US network executives hoping that it could improve in the ratings, but it has failed to do so.

'Eli Stone' is also in its second series but has not been shown in the UK, while 'Dirty Sexy Money' ran on Channel 4.

The US adaptation of 'Life On Mars' has already used up many of the ideas and storylines that were used in the original version, a huge hit for the BBC.

Reports say that the show will be given a rest until next January.

ABC's line-up currently relies on a number of British hits to fill the prime-time schedule, including 'Super Nanny' and 'Wife Swap'. It is also home to the hits 'Lost' and 'Ugly Betty', which is a remake of a Mexican show.
