Pushing Daisies to return to screens in 2009

LONDON - ITV1 has bought the second season of the comedy drama series 'Pushing Daisies', starring Anna Friel, which is set to return to viewer's screens in 2009.

Friel stars in the eight-part drama as Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, the childhood sweetheart of pie-maker Ned, played by Lee Pace, who can bring people back to life by touching them.

The show's first season was broadcast in the 9pm-10pm slot, however, the second series which is set to return next year is going to be given a primetime slot on ITV1 to give it a boost.

The series, which aired on ABC in the US, was nominated for a Golden Globe award and was predicted to be too "quirky' by some for ITV. However, it proved itself to be a steady success pulling in about 5.7m viewers on its pilot episode as it competed with shows such as 'Casualty' on BBC One.

Subsequent episodes did lose some audience and ITV cut episode two of the drama because of ITV's commitments to the Euro 2008 football championship.

The second episode was later made available on where viewers could catch up on that and other episodes they have missed.
