ABC to remake BBC's time-travel cop show Life on Mars

LONDON – 'Life on Mars', the BBC's time-travelling 1970s hit crime drama starring John Simm, is to be remade for the US market by ABC.

The eight-part show, which is set to begin filming its second season in the UK shortly, is to be remade by David E. Kelley, the producer behind US shows 'Boston Legal' and 'Ally McBeal'.

ABC has given the go-ahead for Kelley to produce a pilot for the network, which will air next year.

It is believed that the US version of the show will closely follow the UK version, which focuses on a detective who may or may not have been thrown back in time to the 1970s.

Kelly, who will write the script, is working with independent producer Kudos, which came up with the idea for 'Life on Mars' and was also behind spy drama 'Spooks'.

It is understood that Kudos' joint managing directors, Stephen Garrett and Jane Featherstone, will work as executive producers on the US version of the show.
