Playboy tones down for UK lifestyle site

LONDON - Playboy is set to tone down its x-rated adult footage for a new lifestyle portal launch in the UK.

The new website, which has yet to be named, will be ad-funded: a different model to Playboy's current online offering, which relies on subscriptions. Playboy is expected to go to market with the site later this year.

Playboy's existing online content includes the live streaming of some of its 13 online TV channels. The adult brand's current commercial model offers options of one-day, one-month, six-month and 12-month subscriptions.

Playboy, as with many adult content providers, has extensive online operations, including Playboy.co.uk, Playboy Gaming and a digital edition of Playboy magazine.

Playboy's ‘Cyber Girls' contribute to a blog and video podcast, and the adult entertainment brand has also extended its reach to Bebo and YouTube.
