Sponsors, partners and VIPs, including title sponsor Virgin Money and Team UK sponsor Glenfiddich, gathered in the ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park to hear about the challenges faced by the trekkers during the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge.

The expedition consisted of three teams from the UK, US and the Commonwealth travelling 335km to the South Pole over 16 days, battling temperatures as low as -35°C.

All members of the UK’s Team Glenfiddich were present at the event, with team member and WWTW patron Prince Harry providing his own personal perspectives. There was also a talk from Ed Parker, co-founder of WWTW.

After the on-stage presentations and photo call, attendees met with expedition participants, mentors, guides and other members of the support crew, including the team medic, physiotherapist and psychologist.

Julian Staveley, client services director at Captive Minds, said: "This event is the culmination of Walking With The Wounded’s most ambitious and newsworthy expedition to date. From the outset, the coming together of teams of ex-servicemen, not just from the UK but from the US and Commonwealth too, generated global interest in the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge.

"The demands of international media are reflected in our decision to schedule the press conference for late morning, enabling us to hit lunchtime news in the UK and breakfast news in the US."
