The dinosaur, colloquially known as Sophie, arrived in the venue in December last year. The museum said it hopes the new arrival will act as a talking point at events.
Despite Sophie being approximately the size of a four-by-four vehicle, The Earth Hall’s capacity remains the same, with between 50 and 200 guests welcome for a sit-down dinner and 100-500 for a standing reception. Visitors can also access other event spaces by travelling up the escalator and through the hall’s giant globe.
The museum’s key clients, suppliers and press were invited to view the stegosaurus at a networking evening produced by agency Event Concept. Caterer The Recipe served up healthy canapés for those on a health-kick in January, while green tea elixirs and Earl Grey champagne fizz were on offer alongside glasses of bubbly.
Simon Kershaw, head of events and catering at the NHM, said: "The Earth Hall has always been a striking space but the addition of the stegosaurus provides an extra dramatic centrepiece for events. We’re delighted to include such a rare and valuable specimen in our venue and we're thrilled to be able to celebrate it with our key suppliers and contacts."
