It comes as the museum made an announcement yesterday (29 January) about the dinosaur cast's departure, revealing it would be replaced by a 25-metre-long blue whale skeleton from summer 2017.
Fans of the dinosaur have expressed their dismay through social media, with the hastag campaign #SaveDippy going viral. NHM has said the decision marks the beginning of a decade of change for the museum.
The Hintze Hall is currently available to hire as an event space, with a capacity of up to 1,200 guests. Last year saw .
No-one from the NHM’s events team was available to comment on how the new centrepiece would affect the private hire space.
Sir Michael Dixon, director of the NHM, said: "As the largest known animal to have ever lived on Earth, the story of the blue whale reminds us of the scale of our responsibility to the planet. This makes it the perfect choice of specimen to welcome and capture the imagination of our visitors, as well as marking a major transformation of the Museum."
