The event, sponsored by student accommodation company Vita Student, consisted of a line-up of music entertainment, Q&As and other surprises for fans of the football team ahead of the side’s first match against Liverpool next Monday (25 August), as well as the start of the Barclays Premier League, kicking off tomorrow (16 August).
Attendees were able to see comedian Jason Manford interview Manchester City FC’s boss Manuel Pellegrini in a talk about the upcoming season. New signings Bacary Sagna, Eliaquim Mangala, Willy Caballero, Bruno Zuculini, Fernando and on-loan player Frank Lampard were unveiled to fans for the first time as the first team squad took to the stage.
Manchester guitarist and Sky Blues fan Johnny Marr performed on the night, and a series of end-of-season awards were handed out. Award winners included Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure, who was presented with the prestigious title of 2013–14 MCFC Etihad Player of the Year, as well as claiming the EA Sports Player Performance Index Award.
Samir Nasri picked up the gong for goal of the season for his effort against Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final, while Pablo Zabaleta walked away with the PRU Health-sponsored Vitality Fitness award.
