Paralympic Route Network to be built over bank holiday

As the Paralympic cauldron was lit today in Trafalgar Square, Transport for London (TfL) is preparing to create the temporary road network for the Paralympic Games overnight on 25 August.

The Paralympic Route Network (PRN) is similar to to ease the flow of traffic and ensure those involved in sporting events arrive on time.

The PRN will come into operation on 29 August, the day of the Paralympics Opening Ceremony. It will end operation on 10 Sept, one day after the Games finish.

Covering 36 miles of road, the PRN is significantly smaller than the 109-mile ORN.

It includes 8.7 miles of Games Lanes which will be reserved for athletes, officials and media at peak times. They will mainly link Olympic venues to the City of London where the International Paralympic Committee will be based.

Half way through the Olympics, In the same flexible arrangement that operated in the Olympics, Games Lanes in the PRN will only be used when needed.

Roads in central London will be closed along the Paralympic marathon route on 9 September.
