Panasonic will use the sponsorship deal to promot awareness for new 3D ready plasma televisions and 3D enabled Blu-ray Disc players that will hit the UK market in 2010.
Panasonic's technology will enable viewers to watch 3D stereoscopic video in full 1080p HD resolution. The technology presents two separate 1080p images, which the human eye perceives as a single 3D image when viewed through glasses.
The glasses are designed to block vision in one eye and then the other as the television displays rapidly alternating images, each with a slightly different angle, to create an illusion of depth.
Avatar, which will be released in December, will be shown in both 2D and 3D.
Once 3D equipment is available in homes Panasonic predicts around 100 3D HD films will be made available on Blu-ray Disc.
