The ArcelorMittal Orbit in London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will tomorrow (8 August) launch its pilot late-night event series, called Orbit Lates.

The series, taking place on Friday nights throughout August, will begin with Space in this Place, an event the venue’s in-house events team has organised alongside music promoter Arctic Circle.

The ticketed event, which is sold out and expected to be attended by 280 guests, will take place on the Orbit’s two observation decks and will feature music performances inspired by space, including Ninja Tune’s DJ Food, Astronauts, Transept and Paddy Steer.

Silent Arena will be hosting a silent disco event on 15 August giving guests the opportunity to co-ordinate their own playlist as they flick between music channels, as well as text in requests to a DJ.

The final Orbit Lates event on the bank holiday weekend (22 August) will feature East London Radio, a not-for-profit radio station, which will play an eclectic range of music including soul, disco, hip-hop, jungle, grime and classical.

Vicky Martin, general manager at ArcelorMittal Orbit, told Event: "We are open to visitors during the day, but outside of core opening times the Orbit is available to hire for events. We wanted to showcase it as an iconic venue, especially while there are not many corporate events taking place here.

"We are looking to replicate this event series should it go well. That is promising with the Space in this Place event selling out, and ticket sales are promising for the other two events."

She added that after the Orbit Lates event series, there are plans in development for the ArcelorMittal Orbit events team to work on the forthcoming Invictus Games (10-14 September), taking place at the Olympic Park. The venue is planning to host hospitality events for the games’ opening and closing ceremonies, Martin said.
