A spokesperson for M&C Saatchi Sponsorship, which helped broker the new deal, said Orange was planning to announce deals with three more Premier League clubs, plus one Football League club, "over the next couple of weeks". The company already has partnerships with Chelsea and Manchester City.
The new Bolton Wanderers service launches by allowing fans to access more detailed and faster information about the club through their mobile phone. It will include the ability to see match highlights on video and post-match player interviews; pre- and post-match analysis, including match images; live match commentary for Wap users; and competitions to win "money can't buy" prizes through interactive text messaging and voting.
The deal is part of Orange's sponsorship strategy which has so far focused on film, music and sport, offering exclusive access and content to users.
Orange has also agreed a marketing programme to push the brand to fans, which will include advertising in match-day programmes, perimeter boards at Bolton's Reebok stadium, video screen, leafleting, club mailings and online banner ads on club websites.
