Orange launches 8Mb broadband packages after network overhaul

LONDON - Orange is offering free and discounted 8Mb home broadband packages to new and existing mobile customers after significant improvements to its broadband service.

The mobile company is offering the Home Starter package to its new mobile customers (paying monthly) for free, providing them with broadband speeds of up to 8Mb and a 10Gb usage allowance.

The package, available on an 18-month contract, also comes with a wireless router and Orange's home phone service.

Meanwhile, existing Orange mobile customers (paying monthly) are able to choose the Home Select or Home Max packages for £10 or £15 per month respectively, which includes an unlimited download allowance with 8Mb speeds.

From later this year, small business customers signing up to an Orange Solo plan will also receive free broadband for the length of their contract.

The offers follow the largest set of improvements to the company's fixed line broadband service to date.

Orange said it has upgraded its existing local loop unbundling equipment, which has created faster speeds and a more reliable service for customers.

Mike Newnham, vice president of consumer at Orange UK, said: "We have spent the past 12 months working hard on fixing the basics. As a result we've seen huge improvements in the quality of our broadband network and the service we offer, and our customers are already providing us with some extremely positive feedback.

"That's why today we're able to unveil an up to 8Mbs Home Broadband service as standard for new customers right across our broadband offering."
