The group, which owns the advertising agency networks DDB, BBDO and TBWA\, met analyst expectations, reporting earnings per share for the fourth quarter of $1.08 -- the same figure as the consensus forecast.
Fourth-quarter profits rose 9% to $201.5m on revenue of $2.1bn, up 7.5%. Revenue in the US rose by 8% to $1.2bn, while for the rest of the world it was up by 6% to $965.3m.
The last quarter of 2002 saw Omnicom's media-buying arm OMD win the $500m pan-European account for Sony, as well as the $100m worldwide media work for Siemens. This year, it also won the $200m Office Depot work. HP has also consolidated its links with Omnicom, expanding Goodby Silverstein & Partners' brief to include all its online creative work.
Omnicom's performance is a marked difference to that of the Interpublic Group of Companies, which is still trying to deal with the fallout from its accounting scandals last year. With investment guru Warren Buffett known to hold a stake in Omnicom, its shares have been more resilient.
All 2001 figures are adjusted to be comparable to the 2002 figures, when Omnicom ceased recording goodwill amortisation.
