The computer giant had been running the $400m (拢250m) campaign since November, the first major branding effort since the merger of Hewlett-Packard and PC firm Compaq.
The spot that has been pulled showed how HP has worked with NASA. In it, an astronaut floats in space, before then being shown wandering down a suburban street. The voiceover says: "With the help of HP's technology and servers, the world's space agencies can focus on getting their employees home safely."
The commercial was part of the "everything's possible" series, created by the Omnicom-owned agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners. The ads are designed to show that HP makes more than just printers and PCs.
According to reports, the spot was accidentally shown on CNN during coverage of the Columbia disaster, in which seven astronauts died.
However, the ad has now been pulled from the airways, and appears to have been removed from the company's archive of advertising online.
