Intel cuts shortlist to three for $300m global media pitch

SAN FRANCISCO - Intel has shortlisted three agencies to pitch for its $300m (£149m) global media account, including incumbent Universal McCann.

Interpublic Group's Universal McCann will face off against Omnicom's OMD and Publicis Groupe's Starcom.

Intel initially invited five agencies to pitch for the account, but WPP Group's Mediaedge:cia and Publicis' ZenithOptimedia have been cut.

The pitch will take place during the first week of April at Intel's global HQ in Santa Clara, California.

When the review began in December reports suggested that Intel was unhappy with two-year incumbent Universal McCann's performance, but its survival through to the second round casts doubt on those claims.

Intel's entire marketing business has been run by Interpublic agencies since the group won the $300m account in March 2005.

It had previously been with holding company Havas. The media account was with Media Planning Group and the creative account with Euro RSCG.
