Games organisers Locog announced today the flame will be carried 8,000 miles through 1,018 villages, towns and cities from 19 May to 27 July.
On its 70-day journey, the flame will travel on horseback, by bicycle, tram, steam train and even in a TT sidecar.
Every county in England and every local authority area in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will host the Olympic flame, with welcomes reaching as far as Lerwick in Scotland to St Helier in Jersey.
On 9 July, the Olympic flame will visit Milton Keynes and event space Bletchley Park. Bletchley Park Trust CEO Simon Greenish welcomed the announcement: "We are delighted and honoured that the Olympic torch will be visiting Bletchley Park next year. It is symbolic that 2012 also marks the centenary of [code breaker] Alan Turing's birth - Turing himself being a world-class athlete of Olympic standards."
Many thousands of people are expected to welcome the Olympic flame along the route each day and celebrate the achievements of the torchbearers in parks, squares and streets right around the UK.
On the final day of the Olympic torch relay, the flame will travel down the Thames as it makes its way to the Olympic stadium for the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremony, signifying the official start of the London 2012 Games.
Locog chair, Sebastian Coe, said: "I’m delighted that the Olympic torch relay will take the 2012 Games to almost every corner of the UK and that we have achieved our ambition to take the flame to within an hour’s journey of 95 per cent of the population. Now everyone is invited to plan their welcome and find out where they can go to be part of this historic occasion."
Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport, Jeremy Hunt, said: "When the Olympic flame arrives in the UK on 18 May next year it will mark the final countdown to the greatest sporting event the country will host in our lifetime."
