The Mayor of London is organising the 'Gigs – Big Busk' competition which invites performers aged 11 - 25 to showcase their talents during Games time.
Shortlisted entrants will perform live gigs in iconic London locations, including Olympic venues and the London Live sites in Hyde Park, Victoria Park and Trafalgar Square.
A spokesperson from the Mayor’s office told Event: "It will be a mix of spaces, some will be regular busking locations and some will be more unusual. The idea is to add colour to the capital’s streets to add to the celebration for the Games."
One performance from each act will be filmed for the competition and uploaded to YouTube to be put to a public vote. Finalists will be announced in September and the winner will be crowned after a live play off at a grand final event.
As well as the chance to perform, entrants can also win a London Underground busking licence, music equipment and training.
To launch Gigs – Big Busk, Bestival organiser Rob da Bank joined London-based bands The Robbie Boyd Band and Ze Trio who performed to travellers on board the Eurostar train to Paris. They then played at locations around France’s capital to preview the competition.
