According to O2 around 100 brands, including Egg, Rightmove.co.uk, Financial Times, Monster.com and Lastminute.com, have developed official i-mode sites that will be available when it launches in the UK on October 1.
Alongside the launch, O2 is also to make available four i-mode specific handsets, from NEC and Samsung, and customers will be able to browse and download at a price of 拢3 a megabyte.
The service, which has already launched in 22 countries and boasts 55m users, will be supported by a poster, TV and online advertising campaign created by Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest.
In a statement, O2 says this will be the largest advertising campaign since its launch four years ago and will focus on "customer lifestyle" such as banking and booking holidays.
Matthew Key, O2 UK chief executive, said: "With i-mode, services that are proven to make people's lives easier like banking and shopping, but which have to date been either impossible or too complicated on mobiles, are now simple and secure.
"The i-mode experience in other countries show that this new depth and breadth of content, combined with the speed and simplicity of use leads to far higher customer usage."
O2 already offers O2 Active, which has more of a focus on entertainment and information services.
