In numbers: Waitrose #ThanksMum flower installation

Supermarket retailer Waitrose tasked Ian Drummond of Indoor Garden Design to create a giant flower installation at Kew Gardens, which consisted of 10,000 flower heads.

The activity formed part of Waitrose's #ThanksMum campaign, created by media agency Manning Gottlieb OMD, and involved consumers submitting messages about their mums online.

For each message a flower was planted in both a digital and a real-life, giant Mother’s Day card at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Ian Drummond of Indoor Garden Design designed and built the installation, which was situated at Kew Gardens between 27 March and 1 April.

The installation consisted of:

  • 10,000 flower heads
  • Four different types of rose varieties
  • Two different types of chrysanthemum
  • Two different types of carnations
  • The build and creation took 600 man hours
  • It stood four-metres tall and two-metres wide
