The US-listed cable operator has more than 600,000 NTLworld customers. From January, they will have to pay £5 a month for the dial-up service and new customers will have to pay £10 for the service, as well as having to spend £15 a month on telephone calls.
NTL launched the service in March 2000 but demand was so great that it jammed its network, resulting in some customers having to wait up to six months to get online.
The move, however, was praised by the government for promoting internet access and the service helped NTL become one of the UK's biggest ISPs behind Freeserve, AOL and BTinternet.
