The deal has been done in a bid to cut NTL's programming costs, and will cover 10 of Discovery's channels. The length of the deal is a move away from previous short-term agreements, for which NTL overpaid.
The two biggest cable operators in the UK, Telewest and NTL, are both seeking to cut costs. Earlier this week, they threatened to drop MTV after a failure to agree on pricing for the service.
This month, the two companies also inked a deal to buy hardware together, also in an effort to save money. And in July, the companies launched a £4m advertising and marketing campaign to jointly promote the take-up of broadband internet access over cable in the UK.
