Nokia launches flagship store with Meet London campaign

LONDON - Rap star Dizzee Rascal, footballer Darren Bent, actress Jaime Winstone and celebrity photographer Rankin are all taking part in Nokia's Meet London portrait exhibition, to launch its new flagship store on London's Regent Street.

The exhibition, created by Wieden & Kennedy London, will feature a series of one-off intimate portraits that aim to capture London 2008.

Spearheaded by Rascal, Bent, Winstone and Rankin, there will be four portrait chains representing music, sport, film and art.

Each portrait chain shows the artist's connection with London through the relationships that shape their communities.

The portraits will be displayed in store from February 8 and will also be available to view on Nokia's Meet London .

Nokia also aims to create the biggest ever portrait of London, mapping the city through the connections of its inhabitants rather than by its streets and landmarks.

As a social networking initiative, Londoners will be encouraged to introduce a friend to the city, via a mobile phone portrait made up of text and images.

Once introduced, the chosen friend then introduces their connection and so on creating a chain of unique portraits.

As well as being displayed online, a selection of these images will also be displayed at the flagship store.

Nokia has collaborated with a number of everyday Londoners to explore their social connections and define what makes London special to them.

Those who have created portraits for the exhibition include Will Freeman, London rickshaw driver; Sacha Allen, designer, illustrator and stall holder at Spitalfields Market; and Beresford Trout, London cab driver.

Cliff Crosbie, head of retail marketing at Nokia, said: "These films demonstrate that mobile phones are now central to our lives, relationships and community.

"This unique look into people's personal connection offers an insight into what London means for many of us."
