Following last month's launch of NME News Alerts and NME Ticket Alerts, the IPC Ignite! music brand has now teamed up with mobile service provider Broadsystem to offer its readers SMS updates on their favourite bands and singers.
The service will allow rock and pop fans to be kept up-to-date with breaking stories initially, with the latest news and gossip on around 100 artists being available.
Anthony Thornton, editor of NME.com, says: "This is another great way for our readers to stay one step ahead of the latest news and gossip on their favourite bands from one of the world's most influential and knowledgeable music news teams."
NME's Band Alerts is a premium-rate SMS service, which is paid for by the subscriber via reverse billing. Each time a text message is received, 25p is charged to the recipient's mobile phone bill and customers can cancel the service at any time by sending a text message to Broadsystem.
The new service begins next month and each band will be allotted an individual code which will be published in NME from the May 29 issue. To subscribe, readers must text the appropriate individual code to Broadsystem. On receipt of the fan's message, Broadsystem will sort and field the codes to the relevant messaging service for response.
