NHS commissioning support provider launches events arm despite cuts

The recent public sector cuts have had so little effect on the Primary Care Commissioning Community Interest Company (PCC CIC), which provides commissioning support for the NHS, that it has decided to launch event management service PCC Events.

"While NHS budgets have been protected compared to other areas of the public sector, the changes announced in the health white paper are having an effect on demand for our events," said PCC Events event and operations manager Ria Bunce.

"Just this week in London we ran the first in a series of social enterprise events which was heavily oversubscribed. None of our events have been cancelled due to the cuts, but we have seen a move towards workshops, breakfast meetings and other events that fit around people's changing working patterns. We have also seen a marked growth in the number of enquiries from the third sector and charities."

Over the past three years the PCC’s in-house events team has been the sole provider of events for NHS PCC and in 2009/10, ran over 450 events.

"In the current period of change and economic constraint, everyone needs to work more effectively. The team has a well deserved reputation for quality and value for money," said PCC CIC chief executive Helen Northall.

"We have run events for other organisations and it was an appropriate time to offer this service on a formal footing."
