Simon Hughes, who heads the events side of the government department that handles public sector rosters, said the exact nature of cuts was "unclear" ahead of the completion of a current spending review in October.
But Hughes did reveal that reward and recognition events, such as awards or congratulatory events, were likely to suffer the brunt of cuts because they are less justifiable.
However, ahead of the massive changes expected within the pubic sector – estimates of job losses run as high as 750,000 – internal comms will be more important than ever, and events will be an important method of communicating changes.
Hughes was speaking to Event ahead of an article on how public sector cuts will affect the event industry.
