
A survey by the Meetings Industry Association (MIA) of 1180 showed 58% recorded cancellations in pubic sector bookings.
Nearly 20% of venues said that although they had not yet suffered from cancellations, they had already been warned about reduced levels of business from the public sector.
Chancellor George Osborne suggested in parliament yesterday (8 June) that savage cuts were on the horizon, and events are expected to suffer accordingly.
This is a worrying although not wholly unexpected picture for our members and the wider industry, and we will be doing everything possible to offer as much support over the coming months as we can," said MIA chairman Peter Darnell.
