News International on hunt for search and social media agency

LONDON - News International has launched a review of its search, affiliate, social media and pay-per-click business for some of its newspaper brands online, including bingo for The Sun and News of the World.

The successful agency will be responsible for handling News Corporation's online gaming brands including SunBingo.co.uk, NotwBingo.co.uk and its popular online fantasy football game Dream Team.

The brief is believed to include the first dedicated social media strategy for the newspaper business.

News International currently works with ad agency WCRS and media agency Mindshare. The compay was unavailable to comment on the review.

In the 12 months to 30 September 2009, News International spent £48m on marketing, according to The Nielsen Company, more than double that of its UK newspaper rivals.

Earlier today, News International's parent company after posting a 10% quarterly lift in revenue, a year after the worst performance in its 30-year history.

The global media conglomerate's financial results for the second quarter ending 31 December reported net income of $254m, as compared to a net loss of $6.4bn in the same period last year.
