Newbury Racecourse turns to Twitter as marketing budgets squeezed

LONDON - As part of a cost effective marketing effort, Newbury Racecourse has launched a competition using social media and Twitter to promote its forthcoming Winter Festival, which takes place next month.

is encouraging people to tweet the message #Mahiki@NewburyWinterFestival on their page over the next two weeks to be in with a chance to win a VIP day for four people on Hennessy Gold Cup Day of The Winter Festival.

The winner will be announced on the NewburyRaces Twitter @NewburyRaces profile on November 16. The account currently only has 408 followers and the racecourse is hoping that the effort will boost its profile.

Harriet Rochester, marketing and PR manager for Newbury Racecourse, said: "To compliment our on and off line marketing activity for The Winter Festival, and when marketing budgets have more pressure to deliver results, we want to experiment with new methods to help raise the profile of our showcase racing fixtures."

She added: "Hopefully by using the opportunities that social media provide, it will help raise awareness of the Winter Festival and drive traffic to the Winter Festival micro site and ultimately drive ticket sales."

The competition includes winning Mahiki Premier tickets, VIP Mahiki Grandstand viewing and a Mahiki Treasure Chest, from the cocktail named after the Mayfair club frequented by Royals and celebrities.
