The new venue is primed for a January opening

Set to open in January 2015, The Countess of York has been designed to echo the lavish style of bygone rail travel. The venue’s caterer Levy Restaurants will be able to serve up to 24 guests, serving afternoon tea during museum hours and hosting corporate and private dining events in the evenings.

The interior will feature tailor-made china, Edwardian décor and elegant furniture. Guests will be served by staff dressed as vintage stewards to add to the experience.

Sam Owen, head of commercial and live events for the Science Museum Group, said: "The Countess of York is an extremely exciting venture for the National Railway Museum, offering diners a unique experience of opulence and culinary excellence reminiscent of luxury European train travel.

"We are thrilled to be offering visitors and clients such an unforgettable destination for intimate dinners and corporate events, and look forward to welcoming guests into this splendid carriage."
