MySpace to slash international teams by 300

LONDON - MySpace is making 300 redundancies in its international operations and is losing its international managing director Travis Katz.

MySpace to slash international teams by 300

The social networking site is reducing its international staff from 450 employees to approximately 150 employees and closing at least four of its offices outside the United States. The decision follows planned US redundancies.

London, Berlin, and Sydney will be the primary regional hubs for MySpace’s international operations. Under the proposed plan, MySpace could close offices in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, India, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Sweden, and Spain.

Half of MySpace’s total user base comes from outside the US but the site was recently overtaken by Facebook.

Katz joined MySpace in early 2006 as Vice President International, taking a SVP and Managing Director title in October 2006. He is responsible for all non-US operations for MySpace, IGN and other Fox Interactive Media properties. He grew staff from 2 to more than 400 in a span of 2 years.
