Music distribution company Pias signs YouTube deal

LONDON - Pias, the digital music distributor, has signed a deal with YouTube to generate revenue for its artists, which include Speech Debelle and the Pixies.

The global deal covers audio and video releases on the video sharing website, as well as user-generated content that features repertoire owned by labels that Pias distributes, giving them a share of ad revenue.

Pias will also work with its 200 labels, including Ninja Tune, Domino Records and 4AD, to drive traffic to artist pages on YouTube and sign third-party sponsorship deals. The deal also allows labels to remove content from YouTube if they wish.

Adrian Pope, director of digital and business development at Pias, said: "The YouTube agreement enables Pias to monetise content on our labels' behalf, while working with rights owners and brands to drive traffic to artist channels and other initiatives on an international basis."

Pias Digital is a division of the Pias Entertainment Group, which does marketing, sales, distribution and licensing for music, film, sport and comedy.

It has recently set up two new divisions — one focusing on digital marketing and the other on sync and brand services.

YouTube already has revenue sharing deals with major labels Universal Music, EMI, Warner and Sony BMG.
