London-based 7Digital has teamed up with media hard drive maker Imerge to create a branded download store that can be accessed through users' TV sets, fully integrated into Imerge's entertainment systems.
Using 7Digital's API (application programming interface), Imerge customers can access over six million mp3 tracks from the 7Digital library, without having to use a web browser or computer.
Imerge provides entertainment systems that allow customers to record, store and playback music and video to multiple rooms in their home through connected control panels.
Content purchased from the 7Digital store will be automatically loaded onto the user's Imerge system and will become accessible from anywhere in the home.
The tracks are DRM-free and can be transferred to an iPod, or virtually any mp3 device.
Also this week, Oxford-based We7, an ad-funded streaming music shop, announced a partnership with Ents24 to provide tour information and the ability to buy gig tickets directly from artists' pages.
In a new 'Tours' section on We7, users can browse artists that are currently touring the UK, stream tracks and buy gig tickets.
We7 also plans on adding an onsite merchandising section to allow users to purchase official artist merchandise.
Steve Purdam, We7 chief executive said: "We are very pleased to be teaming up with the live industry in this way.
"Being able to offer our users the opportunity to see when and where their favourite artists are playing while listening to them on We7 continues to further our user experience and open up other potential areas of revenue. This deal is the first of many which will continue to see We7 developing in these areas."
