
Philippa Brown, UK chief executive of Omnicom Media Group since 2007, has been named global chief executive of PHD. Brown takes over from Mike Cooper. She has overseen PHD UK for 12 years in her role as head of Omnicom’s media buying division.
Brown's new job will see her take charge of a global network with close to 6,000 staff and 100 offices. Clients include HSBC, Unilever and Volkswagen Group. She will continue to be based in London, where PHD was founded in 1990.
Ross Neil, executive creative director at McCann London, has left the agency after less than one year in the post. A spokesman for McCann said he had left to "pursue new opportunities".
Neil joined McCann in June last year, four months after he left WCRS, where he had spent 11 years, most recently as joint executive creative director. Neil was brought in to run McCann's creative department alongside chief creative officers Rob Doubal and Laurence Thomson.
TBWA\London has appointed creative team Richard Prentice and David Adamson to the new roles of international creative directors. Prentice and Adamson were previously at Bartle Bogle Hegarty, where their work included outdoor executions for Cuprinol. They will report to chief creative officer Andy Jex and start at TBWA this month.
Former Dare chief executive Michael Olaye has joined connected experience agency SharpEnd as an advisory chairman and stakeholder. Olaye will work with founder and chief executive Cameron Worth on the five-year-old agency's next stage of growth, as well as offering strategic consultancy.
Experiential shop Set Creative has appointed Nick Tether as business development director to help steer the growth of the business. Tether joins from The Field, where he spent six months as business director. Before that, he worked at Exterion Media for more than three years and was responsible for launching its experiential business unit, Exterion Live.
Dennis has appointed Nicola Bates to the newly formed role of managing director of publishing. She joins from Bauer Media, where she was managing director – hobbies and food. At Dennis, Bates will manage the publisher’s automotive brands, which include Land Rover Monthly, the technology and lifestyle portfolios, as well as the Events & Brand Marketing and Research & Insight divisions.
Ebiquity has promoted Nick Pugh to managing director of UK and Ireland, and Laetitia Zinetti to the same role overseeing continental Europe. Both territories had been overseen by Mauricio Barange, who is retiring, for the past three years. Pugh, who previously headed Ebiquity’s advanced analytics practice in the UK, takes up his new role on 1 July.
Lastminute.com has appointed Gellan Watt as chief commercial officer at Forward, its media business, which incorporates its new in-housing consultancy Playbook. Watt was the founder, chief executive and chief creative officer of Thinking Juice from 2003 to 2016, when he founded brand consultancy Gellan Watt & Associates. He previously worked with Lastminute on the development of Playbook, which launched last month.
Justin Cochrane has been promoted to Europe chief executive at Clear Channel, from UK and Ireland chief. The company is returning to treating Europe as a single region, following the outdoor media company’s separation from iHeartMedia, under a change led by worldwide chief executive William Eccleshare. Previously, southern Europe reported to Latin America president Aris De Juan.
Outsider has signed British comedy director Freddie Waters for global commercial representation. Waters got his start with a promo for Jack Whitehall’s arena tour and went on to direct multiple projects for the comedian. He has also worked with talent including James Corden, Matt Berry and Usain Bolt.
Scott Fenton has joined youth-focused football media brand Copa90 in the new position of vice-president of marketing. He joins from sports TV and streaming company Eleven Sports, where he was head of marketing for the UK and Ireland. He has also previously worked at Ultimate Fighting Championship, the NBA and ESPN.
Biscuit Filmworks has signed director Justin Kurzel for commercial representation in the UK and US. Kurzel was behind the "Stop the horror" film for Go Gentle Australia, which helped change the country’s voluntary assisted death law and won a Grand Prix at both Cannes Lions and Ciclope Festival. He also directed Macbeth and Snowtown. His new feature film, The True History of the Kelly Gang, starring Russell Crowe, Nicholas Hoult and Charlie Hunnam, will be released later this year.
Goodstuff Communications has hired Genevieve Tompkins as managing partner. She joins from The Kite Factory (formerly MC&C), where she was chief strategy officer since September 2018. She joined MC&C in 2015 as client development director.
Posterscope has appointed Simon Woodward as global commercial director. He was previously chief operating officer, Middle East and North Africa, at Dentsu Aegis Network and was based in Dubai.
Car tyre price-comparison site Motokiki has appointed former GoCompare group content director Ella Hastings to the new role of chief marketing officer. Hastings will develop the brand’s website, business, resources and capabilities to ensure accelerated growth in business revenues as the company expands to Northern Ireland.
Creative agency Initials has launched technology and innovation unit Labs and appointed Dominic Murray and Simon Smith to lead it as digital and innovation director and head of digital operations respectively.
