Monster cuts 160 jobs globally

NEW YORK - Online recruitment website Monster is to cut over 160 jobs in its global offices, while creating 80 positions to fill its new headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Monster said the job cuts were plotted to enable the company to "shift or add talent and skills" to support the company's long-term growth strategy.

The company announced plans for a new technology centre, which will create 80 additional jobs, with room for another 90 positions in the near future.

Monster.co.uk has five UK offices -- London, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, and one in Dublin.

A Monster.co.uk spokeswoman was unable to confirm if the jobs cuts would affect its UK operations.

The announced organisational changes include the elimination of approximately 110 jobs globally, with approximately 50 more cuts expected at its other Massachusetts base of operations in Maynard.

Monster also said it would be consolidating its job seeker and employer product development teams.

Sal Iannuzzi, Monster Worldwide CEO, said: "Over the past two years we have successfully re-launched our employer and seeker sites on a global basis and we have made substantial progress on the consolidation of our various operating platforms which has resulted in a need for different skills and expertise as we pursue our next generation of product and search technologies.

"We believe that our new technology centre will provide the physical and personnel resources to help us successfully execute on our strategic investments.

"We are making what we believe are the right moves to create the new products and services our customers need."

The company has been hit particularly hard by the recession, with revenue falling 31% in the first quarter.

Monster Worldwide houses nearly 7,000 employees, in hundreds of offices across North America, Europe and Asia.
