MmO2 has announced a UK deal called MMS Interconnect with the two operators. It will allow its customers to send and receive multimedia messages -- featuring pictures, sound and text -- to O2, Orange and T-Mobile subscribers.
According to mmO2, a full interconnection between network operators will help the widespread adoption and use of MMS and camera phones in the UK.
"Our goal is to make MMS as easy to use as SMS," Kent Thexton, chief marketing and data officer at mmO2, said. "We will continue to work with industry players such as the Mobile Data Association and the GSM association to grow the range of MMS-based services available in the UK and globally."
MmO2 says that customers of operators which are not part of the UK interconnect agreements will get a text message asking them to visit a given website address to get the full message.
In Germany, O2 customers have had interconnect with T-Mobile and Vodafone since December 2002.
