On Wednesday (25 April), Lambeth Council approved a planning application from Merlin to potentially shift the dungeon to a vacant site on the South Bank. It would sit next to the Sea Life London Aquarium and near the EDF Energy London Eye – both also Merlin venues.
The dungeon sits on Southwark’s Tooley Street, underneath the railway arches of the station which is set to undergo redevelopment work as part of Network Rail’s Thameslink Programme.
In a statement, Merlin said: "Both Merlin and Network Rail are looking to minimise the disruption of any such works to their business, and as such one possible solution would therefore be to relocate the dungeon, should a suitable site be found."
"The South Bank is a high visitor traffic area and grouping the dungeon with the two existing popular attractions could potentially offer considerable operational and commercial benefits for both the company and visitors."
It added that discussions with Network Rail are continuing and no final decision to relocate the dungeon has been taken.
